Gospel Groups Gather To Raise Funds For Pancreatic Cancer Research and Patient Support Services

Gospel groups from throughout the Eastern Shore and from as far away as Frederick, Maryland will gather on Saturday, May 17th at the Talbot Agriculture and Education Center for the annual Gospel Festival to fight pancreatic cancer.  “We are really excited about this year’s festival” said Bill Shrieves, Festival Chairperson. “Fifteen groups and special guests will perform”.  Many of the groups from previous years, such as the Asbury Celebration Choir from Easton and The New Gospelites from Worton will be performing. New groups performing for the first time include the Gospel Travelers from Frederick, Maryland and the Homeland Singers from Salisbury, Maryland.

The goals of the Gospel Festival are to raise funds to fight pancreatic cancer, increase awareness in our community, and provide a faith based celebration of life for all people suffering from cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, yet it is the most under-funded, under-recognized and least-studied of the leading cancer killers. Currently, less than 2 percent of the National Cancer Institute’s federal research funding is allocated to pancreatic cancer. This year an estimated 45,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 38,000 will die.

In addition to great gospel music, the festival will include food vendors, a Prayer Chapel and pancreatic cancer survivor activities.  Gates open at 10AM with music from 11AM to 7PM.  To see a complete list of performers and schedule for the festival visit the Mid-Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation website www.midshorepancan.org. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased online, by calling 410-745-9243, or at the gate.
