World Pancreatic Cancer Day-November 21, 2019

Join us in raising awareness of Pancreatic Cancer. With a five-year survival rate in the single digits, pancreatic cancer is one of the world’s deadliest cancers.

Yesterday, our President and Pancreatic Cancer Survivor Bill Shrieves met with Senator Ben Cardin on Capitol Hill to get his support for World Pancreatic Cancer Day.

Learn the signs, symptoms and if someone you know has been diagnosed please contact us.

A special thanks to all of our PanCan 5k sponsors earlier this month.

Runners and walkers gathered on Hog Neck Golf Course for a unique 5K race to support the fight against pancreatic cancer. The race took place at twilight and followed the cart paths around the golf course, ending after dark. Runners and walkers were dressed in purple, the color for pancreatic cancer. “Many came to support someone diagnosed with pancreatic cancer or in memory of someone who had passed away from the disease, said Bill Shrieves, President of the Mid-Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. Pancreatic cancer is the third most deadly cancer in the United States with an estimated 44,330 people dying from the disease this year.

Tidewater Physical Therapy was the title sponsor for the event. “We are delighted to support this race and the fight against pancreatic cancer again this year” said Shawn Carter Jr., Clinical Director of the TPT St. Michaels office. Other sponsors included: Comfort Keepers, Clearwater Pools and Spas, Dobson Lawn & Landscaping, Easton Aviation, Maryland Air, Shaw’s Incorporated, Shore United Bank, Rose Hill Family Physicians, and Total Home performance.

Congrats to Bill for completing the Marine Corp Marathon

Congrats to Bill for completing the Marine Corp Marathon

Our very own Bill Shrieves completed the Marine Corps Marathon this past weekend.  His time was 5 hours and 13 minutes, which placed him 13th out of 76 in the 70-74 age group.

“When I decided to run this race, I thought I was doing it to prove something to myself and to raise money to fight pancreatic cancer, says Bill Shrieves President of the Mid-Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Inc.  Five hours is a lot of time to think and I came to realize I was running to provide hope for anyone diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Almost six years ago, a doctor told me to get my affairs in order because I probably would be dead in less than a year.  Six years later I completed a marathon.  In your personal and professional life, never let anyone else tell you what is going to happen.  You are in control of your own destiny.  Never give up hope.”

Congrats to Bill and thanks for all your hard work raising awareness and hope for those with Pancreatic Cancer and their families.

Easton Maryland:  The Mid-Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation held the drawing for their “Celebration Quilt Raffle” at the Shore Regional Cancer Center on November 19th.   “I made this quilt to celebrate my husband Bill’s fourth anniversary as a pancreatic cancer survivor, to raise awareness about the Foundation activities, and to provide hope by sharing his story” said Jean Shrieves.  The proceeds from the raffle benefit the Mid-Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, whose goal is to provide hope and support for pancreatic cancer patients in our own community.

Michele Williams, president of the Upper Eastern Shore Oncology Nursing Society, drew the winning ticket.  The mission of the Chapter is to promote excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care. The winner of the raffle is B. J. Mathias of Hattiesburg, MS.  who purchased her ticket during Tilghman Island Day while visiting her son Jeff Mathias of Tilghman.
